GROUNDED IN HEALING, EMPOWERED THROUGH FREEDOM
OPENING SUMMER 2026!!
What is Equine Therapy?
Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy is a form of experiential therapy that uses horses as a tool to aid in learning, confidence-building, establishing boundaries, and emotional development. This form of therapy includes a Licensed Professional Counselor, an Equine Specialist, and a horse, or herd of horses. All of us at Free Rein are certified in the Eagala model, and follow their standards and code of ethics.
What are the Benefits of Equine Therapy?
Unlike other forms of therapy, Equine-Assisted Therapy encourages clients to focus on their external surroundings, rather than their internal problems. This can be refreshing for those dealing with trauma, PTSD, anxiety and depression. Horses are incredibly grounding creatures, in that they help regulate nervous systems, encourage people to be present in the moment, and are non-judgmental listeners. Additionally, horses often act as mirrors, reflecting back the emotions of the people in front of them. Because of this, they can be powerful partners in the healing journey, promoting introspection and encouraging the clients in growth and self-discovery.
What Demographics can Equine Therapy Help?
Anyone and everyone can benefit from equine therapy! At Free Rein, we specialize in working with those who have experienced trauma and are dealing with anxiety and depression. This can include victims of crime or abuse, children in the foster care or aging out of the system, veterans and first responders, and families struggling through difficult dynamics.
We work alongside individuals, couples, families, as well as groups of people with shared experiences.
